NightHawks Adult Education Program

Are you ready to begin an exciting career in the life science field as a Bio Lab Technician?????

Our NightHawks Adult Education Program, in collaboration with the MassHire North Shore Career Center, is offering a FREE industry training course with credentials and career readiness sessions. 

The objective of the Bio Lab Technician course is to develop the basic laboratory techniques of an entry-level biotech/bioscience lab technician. In addition to learning laboratory skills, students will develop scientific writing, and critical thinking skills. 

In this group setting, students are encouraged to take charge of their learning as they develop teamwork and accountability skills and learn the responsibilities associated with working in a biotechnology/bioscience lab.

The skills that will be covered in this course will include, but are not limited to: Proper lab documentation and calculations, safety in the lab, metrology (making measurements and preparing solutions), separation techniques, DNA isolation and purification, genetic engineering, aseptic techniques, microbiology, and PCR.

Basic knowledge of single variable algebraic expressions, metric conversions, unit conversions is helpful. Written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

Students will have the opportunity to earn essential credentials demonstrating proficiency for an entry-level position in a biotech/bioscience lab.  Industry micro credentials include Safety Techniques, Aseptic Techniques and Small Volume Metrology.   Industry recognized credentials include OSHA-10 for General Industry.  

This class is for serious participants who want a job in the biotech/bioscience field.  Attendance, employer engagement, job placement and career readiness work is required. Participants must be over 18 with a high school diploma or GED/HiSet.

Spaces are limited and due to the high number of applicants, eligible applicants will be scheduled, via email, for an in person interview at Essex Tech. 

In-person classes will begin on June 24th, 2025 until August 14th, 2025 - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8 am until 2:30 pm.  Lunch is included!

Additional on-line work is required.
